Dr Allan and Partners is a young, dynamic, forward-looking practice situated in semi-rural Buckinghamshire. The practice area includes Chalfont St Peter, Gerrards Cross and the Quaker village of Jordans. It is within easy access of London, Oxford plus the M40 and M25 motorways. Dr Hall & Partners, also a training practice, share the building.

Our practice consists of four full-time and one part-time doctor. We have a full complement of staff in the team and we meet regularly and work closely together. Across the road from the surgery is The Chalfonts and Gerrards Cross Hospital, a community hospital where the doctors have admitting rights, a great resource in facilitating good general practice. The hospital provides an outpatient department for visiting consultants along with phlebotomy, radiology and physiotherapy services.

The practice is fully computerised with access to the Internet, e-mail, links to the Buckinghamshire Health Authority and the Birmingham Research Unit for morbidity surveillance.

Night and weekend cover is shared with Dr Hall and Partners and from 2200 to 0700 the commercial deputising service provides cover.

The partnership is committed to providing medical care to the family in the community. However, individual partners have specialist interests. Dr Bray runs a successful acupuncture clinic for the practice. Dr Dean and Dr Bailey are Clinical Assistants in Paediatrics and Genito-urinary Medicine respectively. Dr Dean is also actively involved with The Chiltern Primary Care Group and its development. Dr Allan is Club Doctor and ardent fan of Wycombe Wanderers Football Club.

The Registrar

The registrar is attached to the Wycombe Vocational Training Scheme and spends three and a half days per week in the practice and all day Tuesday at the day release course at Wycombe General Hospital. The registrar has a half-day on a Friday. An allocated room is provided for the registrar along with all the equipment required including the computer, video, television and microwave. The registrar and practice also work closely with the other training practice within the building, providing opportunity for joint teaching sessions and supportive chats.

Current Registrar's Views

I feel privileged to have been able to train here! The Practice is well run and very friendly and the VTS course is excellent. The opportunity is available to see a great variety of patients and the community hospital is a useful working resource. I would highly recommend this practice.

Conclusion

We believe our practice provides a happy and supportive environment for a registrar. Two of our partners trained at Calcot themselves and liked it so much that they stayed. All of the partners completed their training within the last 10 years and like to believe that we ar young enough to remember what it was like!
