The Simpson Centre is a long established training Practice in Beaconsfield. Our other surgery at Penn is also a training Practice.

Other teaching opportunities

• Medical Solicitor - Viv McVey is the PEC chair of the the local PCT and Dr McDermott, in Penn, is the LMC chair.
• Acupuncture - Clinics are run by Simon Lomax for the PCT. He is also a dermatology practitioner at Amersham.

Practice population: 10,000

Most of our patients live in Beaconsfield and nearby Seer Green. We are only thirty minutes by train from London and only thirty minutes by car from Oxford. Many of the population are commuters but there is a varied mix from travellers based on two sites to affluent occupants of lovely mansions.

The Premises

The Simpson Centre lies in a residential road in the centre of Beaconsfield. The registrar has their own spacious room. The library has access to the Internet, as does the registrar's own computer via the GP net. There are three treatment rooms with facilities for minor surgery and coil fitting.

Training

• Two hour weekly tutorial with trainer.
• Alternate week tutorial with another member of the Primary Health Care Team.
• Alternate week joint surgery.
• Because our Penn surgery is also a training practice, this gives an exciting opportunity for shared teaching and input from a different trainer.
• All the partners and all the members of the Primary Health Care Team are committed to training, and contribute towards the teaching in a very enthusiastic way.
• Surgery de-briefs whenever needed are a priority in the Practice.
• We are fully involved with the Chiltern Vocational Training Scheme with its excellent Full Day Release (Tuesday) course.
• Primary HC team which holds weekly meeting.
• Health visitors and district nurses are based in the surgery.
• Registrars participate in the local co-operative service, working with their trainer or a different partner to broaden their teaching experience.

On Call

At present the Registrar is involved in an on-call rota shared with the Penn Surgery, (approximately 1 in 9) from 18:30 in the evening. The Registrar is not expected to do any red-eye shifts and hands over the on-call at 22:00 to Healthcall.

Hours of Duty

The Registrar works in Practice from 8.30 each day until about 6.00pm (except Tuesdays). The Registrar has a half day on Thursday which begins at 13:00.
